8672 8’6″ 7wt – Steelhead Special
This rod is my constant companion on the relatively smaller waters of Vancouver Island in search of summer run steelhead. The taper features a strong tip, medium fast progressive action with a slight regression in the upper butt section of the rod. Really a 7/8 weight rod and as such has lots of available power, loads in close for sight fishing with dries, and is capable of serious distance when called upon. Easily handles average coastal summer runs and does pretty good with the odd larger fish, also used for coho and pink salmon. Lined with a WF8, the rod single hand spey casts very well and this rod/line combo can handle reasonably large flies or appropriate sinking tips.
*Available configured with either a splice joint or nickle-silver ferrule
